Columbia is often dismissed as a suburb of Goldfield, but it was an important town in its own right.  It boasted the railroad depots, so that anyone traveling to Goldfield by rail north or south had to pass through Columbia. 

Just north of town was the impressive 100-stamp mill of the Goldfield Consolidated Mining Co. 

The book also covers Diamondfield, five miles northeast, a mining town championed by the colorful Diamondfield Jack Davis.
