California's Lake County: Places and Postal History by Erving R. Feltman
This book is the story of the many interesting places that have developed in Lake County, Washington, in connection with the early history of the county. Some of the early settlements developed into communities found in Lake County today, but others appeared and then disappeared in response to the evolving economic and transportation development of the county.
This history begins in 1854 when the first wagon train of pioneer families arrived. The first settlers had conflict with the Indians as they tried to scrape out a precarious existence, providing for most of their own needs.
The book is illustrated with examples of paper collectibles, including covers (postmarks) and other postal-related documents, Wells Fargo receipts, picture post cards, and photographs from a variety of sources. Special emphasis is given to the evolution of postal service to and within the county, so this publication is useful to collectors of postal history as well as to anyone interested in the settlement of this part of California.
Paperback, 117 pages, 8.5 x 11 inches. This book contains maps and numerous photographs and illustrations, both 19th century ones and others taken recently.
