Bennettville and the Tioga Mining District by Alan H. Patera
Western Places Volume 7-1

Bennettville and the Tioga Mining District are near the crest of the Sierra, while Lundy is situated in the rugged canyon near California’s Mono Lake.  This book and the Lundy book spring from the pages of the Homer Mining Index, Lundy’s weekly newspaper.

Bennettville and Dana Village served the Great Sierra mine which dug 1,784 feet to strike a vein that was never reached. Bennettville had avalanches that buried buildings and killed residents.  At 10,000 feet, Bennettville post office was the highest elevation office California has ever had.  You can read about the mines, the social life and the events of Bennettville in this well-researched publication.

Paperback, 44 pages, 8.5 x 11 inches. This book contains numerous photographs, both 19th century ones and others taken recently.  People and places are indexed.
